Ever since I was a child I hated the shape of my nose, a family trait which I managed to inherit. I had been offered to go for surgery in the past which would alter the shape of my nose, but for one reason or another I never went through with it. Two years ago however, I was given a bonus at work and I decide to spend it on finally having my nose fixed. After much research online and having read countless reviews and reports, I went to the Stein Plastic Surgery to see Dr. Adam Stein Raleigh,NC surgeon, who turned out to be an absolute star. The good doctor was extremely professional and most importantly, he gave me the results that I had been looking for. I spoke with the doctor again recently to give me some help on this article, where I want to answer some of your questions about rhinoplasty and the healing process.
How Much Does It Cost?
In truth it is difficult to say how much this surgery costs as there are many different factors to consider. The average cost is between $3,000 and $10,000 and the costs depend on where you are, who you use and which clinic you go to. The best bet is to ring around your local clinics and get an average price.
What Risks Are There?
Thanks to the cutting edge technology which is used in this kind of procedure, and the professionalism of the doctors who carry out such surgery, the risks are very minimal and this is considered a safe procedure. With that being said there are some potential risks such as breathing problems, adverse reaction to anesthesia or the worst case scenario is that you will be unhappy with the results of your surgery. Whatever concerns you may have prior to the surgery, be sure that you speak with your surgeon to allay your fears.
What Should I Expect In Surgery?
As aforementioned, the surgery itself is a simple procedure which will see you go under general anesthetic and it generally takes around 2 hours to complete. During the surgery, the surgeon will make an incision either in between your nostrils at the base of your nose, or through the lining of the nostrils inside the nose. Once your nose has been opened, the surgeon will rearrange either bones or cartilage to get the desired results. Whatever the surgeon does during the operation will have been discussed with you in full before the operation.
How Long to Recover?
Recovery will take between 7 and 10 days, and you are recommended to avoid any strenuous activities for 4 weeks after the operation. The recovery can be tough and quite painful and you should expect some swelling, bruising and possibly some blood in and around the nose. After 3 weeks the swelling should have come down and you will be able to see the results of the surgery.
